If you listen to students talk, they spend a lot of time discussing what they want. Many times, this involves new earbuds, shoes, and clothes. However, they have specific brands and versions they want that are often very expensive. Since they usually have parents and guardians to buy these items, students do not realize how expensive their purchases are. Or, they buy them with their work money but need to understand what it is like to pay for a home and other bills. Since learning about money is imperative, students must understand all financial aspects. Luckily, this Credit Unit is the perfect way to teach students about managing their finances!

Importance of Credit Education

When students start receiving credit card offers, it can seem so exciting. Often, this means they quickly swipe their cards with random purchases. However, they do not anticipate the hefty bill after a month of spending. This is exactly why students need the Credit Unit. While it is quick to swipe the credit card, it is hard to pay off the bill! Thankfully, this unit will help students understand how credit and interest work in the real world.

Credit Unit

Teachers need to prepare students for life. When students are in elementary school, this involves learning to read, write, add, and subtract. As students get older, this progresses to applying critical thinking skills. Furthermore, teachers work hard to ensure students understand responsible decision-making. So, this credit unit is the perfect way for students to learn real-world skills about personal finance.

Students will love how the lessons teach them skills they need to know in their lives! Specifically, students will learn about credit, credit scores, and the dangers of credit card debt. Students will even have real-life examples of how credit affects four average American families.

Lesson Components of the Credit Unit

Since credit is so important to learn about, lessons must be hands-on. Luckily, that is the case with the Credit Unit. Students will work on an 8-day unit to ensure they know the ins and outs of credit cards. There is even a pacing calendar to help teachers stay on track.

Throughout the unit, students will learn about credit and how it impacts life. For instance, students will explore lessons on the DVD “Maxed Out.” While teachers do need to purchase this, it will be money well spent when seeing how impactful it is on students. Additionally, students will complete readings on credit cards, explore credit card offers, and take an assessment. By the end of the unit, teachers will be confident their students will responsibly handle money.

Teacher Benefits

Whenever purchasing my resources, there are many added benefits. One of the most important ones involves all of the FREE updates. This is needed as learning strategies evolve each year.

Additionally, I know how stressed teachers are. There are so many daily challenges and little time to get everything done. Therefore, lesson plans are ready to go. Additionally, all of the materials are pre-organized into folders. This means you will not have to spend time searching for what you need. All videos and links required are within the presentation for easy planning. If you ever do have any questions, you can also reach out to me for email support.

Ultimately, students will soon graduate and be responsible for their own lives. However, so many aspects come at them all at once. Thus, they may make quick decisions without understanding the consequences. Thankfully, the Credit Unit will help students understand the dangers of credit cards and how to use them responsibly.
